Early this morning we had a series of thunderstorms move through the South Lafourche area. It is now clear and sunny but offshore is another story. We are watching this invest closely but right now there is little concern.

While standing with several old people on the steps of my building yesterday, some douche in a white truck decided to aim for that part of the flooded street where he could soak everyone. It was too fast to open the doors and get away so I just flicked my cigarette at his driver-side window. It should have been a brick. Easily 3"+ downtown yesterday while 91L was still a mid-level cluster or whatever it was.

I used to catch little boats out of Golden Meadow, Cocodrie and Venice, and bigger boats and helicopters out of Fourchon, Venice, Morgan City/Patterson and Amelia, well, I'm glad for y'all they built up Highway 90.


The old road past the J. Ray McDermott shipyard that would go underwater each Spring if the Missisippi/Atchafalaya were one foot above normal, let alone a tropical storm, well, the death toll potential for a Katrina type storm 100 miles West a lot lower now.

Beautiful Southwest Houston reached a wonderful high of 102 with a 30% humidity. The air pressure is currently rising.

It was hotter and only 2 degrees more humid than Abilene today!!!

I suspect the humidity will go up tomorrow as the air pressure begins to drop.

If only we could get some respite from the heat. Our A/C is broken, can you believe it?? It was 90 degrees INSIDE the house today.

Between Nationwide Race, Hall of Fame NFL induction, and 91L excitement on Storm2K, forgot backyard sprinkler for over 3 hours.


May or may not be related to either 91L or sprinkler and well watered backyard, but walls of my house in back have dozens of little green frogs on them.

I have no clue where Bastardi got his upper intensity limit of 1000mb from.

With a whole 4KT of shear in the GOM according to SHIPS, it could be quite a bit more intense

I know not where Bastardi got his 1964 Abby 1000 mb as worst case scenario, but no model seemed more intense than that, and now I may actually feel compelled to top off gas tanks in car and check bottled water, canned food and battery supplies.


Living almost 60 miles inland, I'm not worried about a Cat 1 or below, beyond that, loss of power becomes a concern, and with rule of thumb of add a Saffir-Simpson category to official NHC forecast as a course of least regret, a Cat 1 forecast means worry of loss of power, as my wife's family in 1983 lost power for almost a week after Alicia.


I'll go do basic preps tomorrow, but short of window boarding. We have a birthday party tomorrow at a inflatable slide/rock wall climbing/pizza place, my son turns 7 on Tuesday.
