I'm not surprised about the low pressure relative to the winds. It seems this is in a low-ambient pressure environment, but I could be wrong - we'll have to see what is found in the SW quad (due to its SE movement, the SW quad is probably the strongest)

Recon data is mixed - SFMR supports 55-60 kt, FL supports 40 kt. I'd say 50 kt as a blend of the data. Pressure down to 986mb.

Why are the SFMR readings coming back higher than the FL readings? This is a consistent...inconsistency....with this storm. I don't understand what would cause winds to be higher at the surface, or why the SMFRs should be repeatedly suspect.

Where will recon go? I'm guessing they won't be taking off and landing in a category 2.

Can't they go to western Puerto Rico, likely the least affected area by Omar and still part of the US?

My guess is out of Homestead as a backup base.

So far looks like they've found about the same as the 11pm advisory estimates, right? Heading back to the middle now.

It looks like they used the 70kt SMFR report. They've bumped the winds to 80mph on the 8am advisory.

I checked with the crews down in Croix... and they're headed to Barbados.

pojo, a much better solution in my opinion. Barbados is a lot closer to the hurricane than Homestead.

From the last VDM they put this remark:

JAGGED EYEWALL ON RADAR

What does that mean?

that means the eye wasn't circular... there were parts that may have looked like a buzz saw.

it's easier to go to Homestead because of the US base.... the Barbados trip most likely had to be planned by the State Department & our General for precautionary measures....
