its getting pretty close to the eyewall probably in the next couple hours it will pass over or near it.. pressure 1009 at the bouy

Just checked it and pressure is at 1002 not 1009

ooopss typo sorry thanks :)

Convection around the center is becoming impressive in the last 2 or 3 frames... no doubt that there are sustained hurricane force winds in those storms. I think this will be short lived though... no reason to upgrade at this point as it is losing symmetry like others have said. I'm wondering what this thing is gonna do when it becomes extratropical... like how far displaced from the center the strongest winds will be, and whether there will be much of anything to the north of the storm at that point.

lol its ok. I wonder if Ida has run out of surprises for us or if she still has a couple left in her? Running out of hot water quickly so she better hurry up and do what she is going to!

I wonder about all the references to the Gulf being too cool to keep Ida sustained being mentioned. The SST's in the Gulf are running above 80 degree's almost to 25N and then only drop to the upper 70's in the northern Gulf. I think this might not be as much a factor with a system that will be racing northward and tightening pressure gradients!

Now the shear is another thing.

looks like its losing symmetry because the last explosion of convection is dying as the new one builds. i'd expect it to look nice and round again in about 2 hours.

Rainband,
I heard today that they are starting to shutdown and evac some of the rigs off the LA coast late today and tonight.
Rumor so take it for what it is worth.

actually the structure looks more impressive since you can see more banding in the mid and upper levels not just a ball of convection ... the waning of convection always occurs when is happens.. the last few frames of from the ssd and the image above shows it well. with the grey colors providing evidence of a very strong band that has wrapped around the whole center and that must occur for a eyewall to truly close off.

The banding to the east and north of Ida looked much stronger in the first image of this loop than on the last one. although the core is at it's best since she made landfall.

Does look like a hurricane IMO, though looks can be quite subjective of course. I suspect what recon finds depends on wehether its on a pluse up or not as this seems to be the type of storm that blows up deep convection quite readily at times.

I'm not sure at all, but it's really losing its symmetry in the last few images. I can also see the NNW movement now, finally.

looks pretty round too me now.. :P

LOL. I sure jumped off the bandwagon too quick. I guess I'm getting that weird double vision from staring at every loop until my eyes glaze over...
