You can say "goodbye" pretty soon, too. The NHC handed the system over to the OPC on the last outlook. It'll be passing Cape Cod tonight and heading off to Nova Scotia tomorrow as more of an occluded low.

Unfortunately, they don't keep me "in the loop" when making these decisions. I don't think they're concerned about tropical development. They're probably as bored as most of you.

People enjoying the 30 knot winds and rains in Eastern Long Island and Massachusetts, we don't have to tell them it isn't tropical...

Unlike the winter Nor'Easters, when the trees of Cape Cod are bare, lots of leaves, more surface area, maybe even scattered limb damage!

It will just go well with the terrible lack of summer they've (SNE) had already. Cold rain and breezy.

Sure it looks completely frontal and not at all tropical on visible satellite imagery centered on Charlotte.

But lets get that WC-130J in there, find half a degree of surface warming at some level, and name it Frontal System Ana!

I need a storm in the next 8 days!

Here's a surface plot with the low center identified. The crosshairs mark the center, the lat/lon can be read at the bottom of the window (36.87N/74.14W). Moving rapidly northward. Low is tilted vertically toward the colder air to the southwest. That's why the low center appears to be south of Hatteras on satellite imagery - you're looking at the upper low.

No need for recon. Ana will wait 'til August 8th.

We don't need no stinkin warm core non-frontal low. STS Ana because the on duty forecaster at NHC has July 21st-31st in his office pool as well.

The 12z NAM today appears to wrap this system in up quickly into a TC, before hitting Eastern Long Island tonight.

there really is no need for recon, there is basically nothing to look at. Its XtraTrop already and is caught up in a TROF and the jet.

NHC is bored, as are we.... we can only do so many simulated storms until we get anxious for the real thing.

Just noticed that there seems to be some kind of error TCPOD Numbering here. Which they have fixed just now. The flights were scheduled for today on TCPOD #09-055.
