Although I suspect it's a glitch within NOAA's METAR translator.

based on the reports from Veracruz, we can say that the area of winds associated with Karl was really small. The airport is already reporting south winds, that means that the circulation is to the NW of the city

We are getting pounded with heavy rainfall from Galveston moving north at 20mph. They are saying it is from Karl rain bands.

Mexico got a break ... look how Karl began to deteriorate even before landfall
I think that the RECON plane got to the storm when it was beginning to weaken
I agree. I don't think it was a Cat 3 at landfall (although it probably was 3 hours ago when they reported the 118 kt FL winds). My guess is that it peaked at about 0900Z at 110 kt, and dropped to 90 kt in the last 8 hours with the fastest drop in the last 4 hours.

I also agree. They didn't descend until just prior to 8 AM Eastern. By then the show was mostly over.
Also the majority of the system was pushing out ahead to the West as it made landfall so it started deteriorating then.

Now, let's wait for the news from Veracruz and see if it wasn't very bad as it was expected to be early this morning, hopefully no fatalities.

Could be in millimeters.

165 mm rain last 6 hrs (117 last 3 hrs)
1 millimeter = 0.0393700787 in
165 * 0.0393700787 in = 6.50 in
Sounds closer than 35 inches.

great pic there Luis. The govt. station showed the streets there just awhile ago and there was a small amount of flooding, and very little wind. Hope that is the worst they get. They have actually even returned to their regular programming so I would consider that to be good news. I hope it is the same for all affected by Karl.
