After further review..maybe not. Isidore looked bigger. I doubt Alex gets any bigger.

The actual core of this system is not that large but the system really is dragging in its inflow from a fair way out.

Then again that Isodore image is immense!

Picked up by a hedge fund as a private met possibly, which would certainly gag him from posting/sharing info. Just a guess.

edit* I actually just ran across this-

"Ladies and gentlemen. During the last 8 years, nwhhc.com has provided the only non-governmental verifiable tropical cyclone track and intensity forecasts that were freely available on the internet from people that were in the field of meteorology. As of today, this service has been terminated. I, Derek Ortt, have accepted a position with another company as a hurricane forecaster on May 24, 2010. Therefore, it is no longer possible to continue nwhhc.com.

All of us at nwhhc.com would like to thank everyone for the support and for using the service during the previous 8 hurricane seasons. The site would not have lasted as long as it has without your support.

Thank you everyone!

Derek Ortt

mmmm... i think Alex has Allen beat

I remember seeing the satellite of Allen between the Yucatan and Texax and it was even larget then. I remember the Cirrus of Allen was all the way up to Lake Bruin Louisiana as it made for some pretty sunset photos.

So 50 mph, huh?

This image is 2 hours old and hasn't been updated. I believe tropical storm force winds have already reached Belize and the Yucatan Peninsula. Even Honduras may be affected by tropical storm force winds.

Yeah I suspect the areas you've mentioned HS is getting TS force winds...

Looks lik the track is only a little north of west at the moment, going to have to gain some more latitude to get into the BoC.

Looks like Alex is a little to the south of the NHC forecast track, as you'd expect given its tracked south of the NHC forecast since the very start...

This image comes straight from Chetumal, Mexico, near the Mexican Yucatan Peninsula/Belize border. The first raindrops are popping here.

Meanwhile, we need a radar image from Belize! Here's one:

Thank you for the info on Mr. Ortt. I miss reading his ideas and predictions.

On another note, someone mentioned how slow the board is now that it SEEMS that this storm is not likely to be a big US storm. Can you imagine if a storm this siz 8-) e were in the Atlantic? The board would overflow with comments!

A little more poking around and I found out he is at Impact Weather in Houston. They have a paid website, hence the no free posting.

Interesting...

One other question--As large as this storm is, is it big enough that either the west or east coast of So Fla might get some rain or wind from it (depending, of course, on its direction)? 8-)

:uarrow:

Alex is not large enough to effect Florida other than surf. Alex stretches as far east as Jamaica and north to Cuba. As long as it stays due west, So Fla won't get rain from Alex.
