I also noticed a large sinkhole in downtown Guatemala City from this storm.

The pictures I see from this storm just get more depressing by the minute it seems. Prayers most definitely going out to the victims of Tropical Storm Agatha. :(

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/37418183/ns/weather/

According to this article, 50 dead in Chimaltenango department and 14 in the town of San Antonio Palopo. If I did my research correct on the locations, this town is not in this department - meaning at least 64 dead in just these two places alone. :(

Also, four in Guatemala City, four just outside there, and 4 in Quetzaltenango. That's a total of 76 dead if i did my math right. :(

Easily one of the worst storms to ever hit this country.

My prayers go to the familys of the victims. IMO,the name Agatha should be retired.

I totally agree. Like I said yesterday, if Alma can two years ago for similar, and maybe even not quite as severe, damages in Costa Rica, this name should go too.

Sad week to Guatemala, an volcanic eruption and a tropical storm. My prayers go to the familys too.

I agree now it is quite possible that Agatha will get retired, since Central American counties are usually pretty quick to retire names.

Even a "below average" hurricane season can have a deadly storm, the worst since probably 1997 (Pauline).

The NHC's reports for Mitch states the death toll in Guatemala as 258. The totals in the report for Stan are less precise: "It is impossible to determine how many people were killed by Stan....Guatemala was particularly hard hit; over 1000 persons may have perished in that country."

Death toll keeps risisng and now it seems that Honduras suffered some important damages too.

Guatemala has 82 deaths and more than 111 000 people affected.
In El Salvador 9 people are reported dead and more than 10 000 affected.
In Honduras 8 people were killed and 2500 have been affected.

Agatha must be retired, there's no doubt about it.

It looks like an absolute nightmare in Guatemala. My prayers also go out to the people affected. And hurricane or no, T. S. Alma opened the door two years ago in the EPac: Agatha has to go.

Agatha should be retired given we've already got around 100 deaths and there are probably more to come yet as well...

The opening salvo of the 2010 season for both basins turns out to be a deadly one, despite only reaching 40kts.

Agatha is displaying a good ball of convection this morning off the coast of Belize. I may resume forecasts this afternoon or tonight. Wind shear is decreasing across the caribbean and GOM, and SSTs are still high.

Really a rather awful start into the 2010 season.

One can only hope it won't get worse over next couple of months but my gut feeling ain't a good one.
