We'll have to see the final numbers. But there is a chance we won't.

Well, that depends entirely on whether or not whoever in the Mexican government weather service who's in charge of such things asks to have the name retired. There are no "final numbers" that automatically get a name retired. An affected country has to officially request that the name be replaced.

We're finally getting the rain! About an inch this morning. You can almost hear the grass saying "aaahhhh!" Yep! Rain and mosquitos just in time for 4th of July! :(

2004 and 2005 made people wake up, and if you see the list, everything is from 2005 onward.

Chris 2006 lasted 5 days and Katrina 2005 lasted over a week. Look where Chris is in relation to Katrina in the number of pages.

True to both...still just surprising that it isn't in the top 15. I remember being on here and RadioNHCWx talking about her before she hit Florida, and how the models were pointing toward the MS/LA area.

Brunota, when systems form in the Eastern or Central Atlantic, the interest increases a lot and the best example was Ike.

Now the debate begins about if Alex should be retired or not. Apart from these 7 deaths in Mexico, there were a few more in Guatemala and El Salvador (I dont know the exact number)

Thanks to Alan1969 for the translation link and to Macrocane for the link to the impressive disaster fotos.

Glad to see that not everyone forgets about the effects of the storm after the fun of tracking it is over.

Probably not much we can do to help those affected, but we can at least show we care... and pray for them.

Katrina, Ivan, Charley, Rita, Dennis and Frances would all easily get into the top 15 of the discussions if you were to add all the sperate threads together relating to the storm.

Yes, if memory serves I think there was another thread for Katrina started on recovery/aftermath that most of us began using once she made landfall.

According to the last report form the government of El Salvador, 5 people died because of Alex and more than 5000 were affected. In Guatemala 2 deaths were reported a few days ago but I'm not sure if that number increased.

Up date on Alex Deaths in Mexico

snip
Death Toll from Alex Raised to 20

MONTERREY, Mexico – The number of deaths caused by Hurricane Alex as it swept through northern Mexico has risen to 20 after the discovery of seven more bodies in the states of Coahuila and Tamaulipas, official sources said.

Four bodies were found late Thursday night on the banks of the Rio Grande near Ciudad Acuña, where one person is still missing, according to the Coahuila state Attorney General’s Office.

Then on Friday the bodies of three family members were found, while the same family’s two youngsters aged 9 and 10 had saved themselves by climbing a tree and staying there for four days after the car in which they were all riding was swept away by the Pilon River in Tamaulipas.

Authorities are searching for another minor who was traveling with the Ganoa Treviño family when they were swept away by the swollen Pilon River
