What an amazing cyclone  Very very bad news for Myanmar. I remember Joe Bastardi said earlier this years that the energy from the oceans was going to be released with above normal activity in the Atlantic and North Inidian ocean to compensate the below normal activity in the Pacific basins.

It would be worst if it will hit in Bangladesh coast. We got a cyclone in earlier of this month that killed least 15 people. :(

And an estimated 60mbar drop in pressure within 24 hours. What a bomb.

Where is it heading exactly? Myanmar or Bangladesh?

To compare, Megi dropped 70 hPa in 48 hours per JMA. Note that JTWC uses the Atkinson-Holliday wind-pressure relationship so they peg their pressures to the winds.

Scary, shades of Nargis.

Imagine that beasting sitting just several miles offshore from your house.

Or what's worse this one rushing towards where you live without getting any warnings whatsoever.

Scary stuff.

Ya, I hate this, really do. I do my videos as a hobby and enjoy tracking these storms out to sea. But this one... it turns my stomach a little. Well a lot.

Blimey at the IR loop

http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/mtsat/flt/t4/loop-avn.html

Also, Giri should've made landfall now about 20 miles southeast of Sittwe, the biggest city in the area with a population of 180,000.

My favourite quote from the USA Today article on this would have to be:

"To avert a cyclone disaster, we are giving an offering of three white umbrellas and three candles" at a revered temple, said shopkeeper Nu Nu Khaing.

There are no words.

Here is my update for this evening, the first part is about Giri the rest is the other storms if you care to watch. Very busy day today, and the program is use to do these videos was a little fussy so please bear with the skipping.

Stronger than Nargis when it made landfall.

Nargis was much bigger, and traveled a long way over land at strength.

Wow, that is truly the worst-case scenario for bombing out right before landfall. Could it have been a Cat 5 at landfall?

Well it strengthened all the way up to 155mph, it was at least a borderline Cat4/Cat5

IMD had 100kts at landfall which is stronger than they have Nargis listed at in the BT (90kts).
