If anything the actual structure is improving again right now, the eyewall is weakening mind you which is probably a hint of things to come, may well be a hurricane again right now...

At this stage reminds me a lot of Shary with his current look. Had enough swirl to be a Hurricane and was firmly connected to a trough with a very similar look, but quickly died as it raced northeast.

It's pretty neat how the core is tropical but the northern side has completely merged into the cold front.

it has been an amazing storm
a lot of people were saying yesterday it would be non tropical by now
thank goodness this did not happen in september
the damage was bad enough for a oct-nov storm
just think of how bad it could have been in sept or early oct
the people of Haiti have been through so much

Haiti truly dodged a bullet there. I mean, it's awful that there are casualties but let's be real, this could've been far more disastrous.

79 kt at flight level, 64 kt at surface

This would make Tomas a hurricane again - did anyone expect this?

981? Surely would think that is an error by the sensor, but perhaps a dropsonde would say otherwise...that would be a pressure drop of over 10 millibars in what? Less than 6 to 12 hours?
