I think its pretty much 100% certain that we do get Tropical Cyclones in the med, they seem to often form in much the same way as systems like Grace and quite a few other systems that form in the Northern part of the basin.
If you compare Grace with most of the med systems, they are strikingly similar to look at.
Its probably not that often you get a true Med hurricane but probably regular to warrant keeping an eye on it, esp given the S.Atlantic has its own 'basin' and if anything the Med seems to be pump out tropical 'like' systems more often then that area.
