Doesn't appear like SETX will get much of anything from Don at this point. He just hit the warmest waters yet and this explosion of convection is concerning.


If any storm manages to get thru the Florida Keys into the GOM God help us.

Umm recon just measured 996 mb.... and I see a warm spot on his-res IR imagery. Beginnings of an eye maybe?

NOAA has a history of skeptical extrapolated pressure readings. Lets wait for a dropsonde or the AF plane.

"Some slow strengthening is possible before the center makes landfall."

Seems unrealistic for me, why only slow?

The suspicion of the 996mb pressure has nothing to do with the size of the plane or expertise of the crew...it's simply that the accuracy or extrapolated pressures degrades with altitude. The higher the altitude...the less accurate the extrapolation.
