Either reasonable or conservative usually.

put it this way, where I am we have already had a 1/2 inch more than it predicted for the day.

I'm in Virginia Beach.

News is just now starting to discuss it at length.

Store's are still very un-busy.

I'm in Va Beach too...at the Ocean Front by Rudee Inlet. It could get very messy by us soon
Right now it's pouring in downtown Norfolk where I work...I don't think that could be Sandy related yet though, could it?

Wow. Here in NYC a hurricane emergency is being activated. There are a large number of public schools here that are designated shelters and the city is delivering chain saws to each one of them right now. Never heard of that before.

Do you work for the city of Norfolk?

I'm out by the airport and we've just got a drizzle.

I did a lot of running around this morning preparing for the storm, and it was just another Friday morning.

Winds are easily over 30 here now sustained (no squalls right now) - trees are wipping about outside. Little branches strewn across the grass.

New York City's subways run underneath the buses, right?

From the NY Times:

Joseph J. Lhota, the chairman of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, said in a radio interview on WNYC on Thursday that the agency was discussing contingency plans to move buses to higher ground if necessary. Last year, the authority carried out an unprecedented shutdown of the entire subway system ahead of Tropical Storm Irene.

“I don’t think we’re looking at anything like that for what’s happening next week,” Mr. Lhota said.

Correct. They will surely need to suspend the entire system - and subways before buses probably.

They should place buses so that they can be used immediately after the storm ends for recovery.

Per the photo posted a few posts ago, look at all that mid-level cu - not exactly a hurricane anymore, that's for sure...

I'm going to take a guess and say everything is going to turn out better up north than everyone is fearing...

He's wrong, as he often is, lol. They will most likely have to shut the subway system down. There is a much higher risk of ocean water getting into the subway system this time.

No, I don't work for the city-I'm out by NSU. It's been downpouring off and on for about an hour. I haven't been out and about yet other than work, so I hope it stays un-busy out there until I get off work :D

Should I be fine on my Monday, 10/29, 6:30 AM-4 PM flight from London to Newark? Anyone think there will be delays/cancellations by that point up there?

Need to get home and do as much prep as possible before it actually hits.

I'd try to head back across the pond soon, if at all possible.
