LONG line at Lowes for a generator. No D batteries - they've been long gone.

I have a headache, I'm thinking it's a combination of the pressure change and the tension I'm feeling about this.

Wow. Check out the current watches & warning map. Sandy is just so massive!

Does someone have a handy link to that CONUS winds map that was linked alot here during Isaac? I forgot to bookmark it. I have a feeling that will be very interesting to see in the days ahead.

Our CT governor has been on the TV.....

"Folks this could be bad. Really bad," Gov. Malloy says. High number of power outages for long period of time. Extensive flooding

Um, hello, NJ are you still there?!?! Can't see you!

So sad and scary. I'm a Jersey girl originally. Grew up in Essex Co. So concerned for all my friends and family in NJ.

Praying for you all.

I have lived in Florida for 4 1/2 years, my whole family is in South Jersey, children, siblings their children, been talking to them and they are not taking Sandy seriously. They are all right along the Delaware river .It is an awful feeling knowing they are so la de dum about it. Then I read stuff on here and am getting more afraid for them. How do you get them to wake up?

Via Mike Smith's blog from NHC Public Relations.

Dennis Feltgen, head of public relations for the National Hurricane Center.

Mike,

We will put something on our website and FB page soon to explain this.

But the bottom line is that a hurricane watch/warning for the coast cannot be issued if it is not a hurricane. It has to be handled by the other NWS watch/warnings products

I know how you feel. We've been in contact with family in VA, MD, NJ, Long Island, and New England. They keep telling us they are hoping it's all just media hype. After much pleading, we did get one relative to leave Long Island (not far from shore) and head to his son's in PA. As for all the others, we just urged them to prepare for a long time without power and told them we are praying that it's not as bad as they say it will be.

Some current news reports:

NJ.com - Hurricane Sandy could be among worst storms to ever hit N.J., experts warn

Washington Post: Hurricane Sandy still on track to deliver a major blow

Boston.com: Step by step breakdown of impact from hurricane Sandy

NBC New York: Sandy Intensifies, Heads Our Way as Evacuation Orders Begin in NY, NJ

CBSNews: Dire forecast as Hurricane Sandy approaches

I hope I'm not annoying anyone here with my very frequent posts today. But if this is as historic a storm as some of us fear it will be, it seems like it's important to have a record.

Mods, if I am monopolizing the board or posting anything inappropriate, please let me know.

I wish I knew! My whole family lives in South Jersey, and my Dad isn't concerned at all. He said the media always hypes thing up, so he is immune to it.

Also, I am down in Atlantic City right now. Some casinos are boarding up, but in Brigantine it doesn't seem like anyone is concerned. The grocery store was fully stocked this morning and people were out and about jogging and such. The beaches did have some artificial dunes set up.
