Artist, uncheck the box for the satellite your using then close GE down. Wait a minute, restart it, then check the box again to bring up the new satellite picture. Thats how I have to do it.

No, the winds are relatively weak up there (18N), and that coupled with land (the plane was over land) is probably messing with the wind direction, especially if there are any mountains there.
