Danny? This is no Danny...why are you comparing it to that storm?

I have friends in Newport News VA. I was there just last spring (Spring 2011). Praying for all of you further down the coast as I brace for the worst of Sandy tomorrow!

That bridge is the James River Bridge and it doesn't look too bad there (there are drops on the lens covering certain parts that kinda make it look worse than it is). That bridge is pretty low to the water at each end. Norfolk has two other bridge/tunnels across to Newport News, the monitor-merrimac and the Hampton Roads bridge tunnel. The Chesapeake bay bridge tunnel goes up to DelMarva and is the furthest east of those tunnels.

'Danny' was a moderate tropical storm that had really no impact on land outside perhaps Cape Cod (and the Gulf Coast when it was a hurricane). This storm is impacting nearly half the states in some way.

I'm truly amazed by the volume of ocean this storm is pushing.

Sandy's center appears on the IR to be due south of her 29/0600Z forecast position at about Lat 34.5. Seems to be moving a little quicker than forecast and may possibly swing a bit further east before her turn to the north and then northwest?

Please note: Untrained eye and amateur observation. Have little to no clue about anything meteorological.

hard pressed to find any storm to compare this too....you have TS winds not expanding 500 miles from the center and Cane force winds have expanded to 105 miles from the center.....this is a storm in a class of its own...

Per NHC 11pm Discussion:

HURRICANE FORCE WINDS EXTEND OUTWARD UP TO 175 MILES...
280 KM...MAINLY TO THE SOUTHWEST OF THE CENTER...AND TROPICAL STORM
FORCE WINDS EXTEND OUTWARD UP TO 520 MILES...835 KM.

I'm amazed.

Just read on twitter that 70% of Brigantine Island NJ's 9500 residents chose to not evacuate. So not good.

Does anyone has a graphic of New Jersey to see where Brigantine Island is located?

When you evacuate, it's not always that easy for residents to get back to check on properties - but looters have no problem getting around
