KBBOCA wrote:Sanibel, NOT TRUE!!!! A bullseye on NY Harbor would be BETTER for NYC in terms of surge. If this makes the expected hard west turn into south or central NJ it will push a MASSIVE AMOUNT of water in NY harbor and LongIsland Sound.

At least from a surge stanpoint, a direct hit (like with Irene) would have been better.

DISCLAIMER: I'm an AMATEUR and may be WRONG! Listen to the NHC & NWS & local emergency officials!!

I'm not sure at this angle but I don't want to quibble. Tonight will tell. This is no Long Island Express but it is a broad surger which might be worse. One thing is for sure is a Long Island Sound surge.

This is how the old duck saying goes for Sandy, if she looks like a hurricane when she it goes inland, has low pressue like hurricane, has hurricane force winds like hurricane, has heavy rainfall like a hurricane and causes damage like hurricane then she must be a_____________ and there should be hurricane watches and warnings in place. Hey just my opinion here.

Atlantic City is already all flooded. Water is breaching the sea wall in Cape May, NJ. Knee deep water pretty much up and down the southeast NJ shore and she hasn't come ashore yet. The pressure is now 943 mb, with 80+ mph winds in this storm. I think that the gusts are 105 mph.

Highest surge will be this evening.

I'm watching the webcam of the Harbour and it feels like I am watching the beginning of something bad happening. Things have just gotten worse in the past hour or so for NYC.

I don't believe that they've raised the surge yet.

Latest. I believe you can start to see a cold front, some stationary upper level clouds, trailing from the center.
