From where this appears to probably make landfall there is a valley across Haiti that elevations are less then 1000 ft above sea level in that area all the way across island. If this system hits the valley will that help it maintain strength?

Probably it would weaken because the inflow would be kind of restricted, but it would weaken more if the core got disrupted by the mountains.

I noticed that Too Aric. When I was looking at the last sat picture in motion I kept wondering how it can hit cuba if it continues with that motion...

If it was Ferro, just change the channel... lol.

Seriously though they would have specified in the Advisory if it was a coastal warning or not. Being that all of inhabited Broward and Dade county lives within 15 lies of the shore.. A warning usually extends to the entire area.. I don't believe I've ever seen a coastal advisory for SE Florida

This was the wording from the advisory

"THE FLORIDA EAST COAST FROM JUPITER INLET SOUTHWARD"

Miami TV Mets aren't what they used to be... To bad Norcross left

sounds like he thinks those drawn in blue and yellow lines mean only on those blue and yellow lines! lol Sad, but funny at the same time.

Looks like Isaac is getting close to makeing landfall in Haiti coast along the Tiburon Peninsula just west of Jacmel. Should be back over water soon as the peninsula is rather narrow but mountainous. Isaac should reintensify before encountering Cuba. If Isaac remains on a NW course, the cyclone could cross the extreme eastern tip of Cuba and reach the Atlantic Ocean where it shoud again reintensify. This could allow Isaac to become a hurricane before reaching Florida. I belive this will likely happen. So if you are in south Florida and the Keys prepare for a hurricane. There is a small possibility that Isaac could rapidly intensify over the Florida Straits........MGC

The above is the opinion of MGC and not an official forecast.

There ALREADY IS a hurricane watch for SE FL south of Miami.
Look at the pink band outside of the blue on the NHC tracking map - that's a hurricane watch.

If Isaac continues on its current northwest course, instead of jogging to the west-northwest as models are forecasting, it could present an even bigger problem for the folks in southeast Florida.

Here's the exact statement from the NHC 11 p.m. forecast advisory about hurricane watches in FL. I'm not sure exactly where Ocean Reef is in relation to Miami.

A HURRICANE WATCH AND A TROPICAL STORM WARNING HAVE BEEN ISSUED FOR
ALL OF THE FLORIDA KEYS...INCLUDING FLORIDA BAY...AND FOR THE COAST
OF THE SOUTHERN FLORIDA PENINSULA FROM OCEAN REEF ON THE EAST COAST
WESTWARD TO BONITA BEACH ON THE WEST COAST.

Ironically ... just as its about to make landfall ... I can finally see REAL organization to this system. Looks almost like NNW movement.

The eye should cross the coast over the next few hours. It may have just enough time to become a Category 1 hurricane, depending on what recon finds in just a bit.

And maybe even the west coast of Florida if this happens to make that WNW turn farther east

REcon is on the way, hopefully they make it before landfall and we can see if he has intensified. Not sure if they would continue to take observations if he's over that peninsula of Haiti or not. I guess they think they have a good shot at being able to get a few passes or they would have waited until he finished his cross over.
