This morning's hot towers have done their job and heated the core.

Now at 4C and 12km height.

But, out local meteorologist here in Baton Rouge, just said that Recon picked up a pressure of 968 mb?

Has any of you seen this data anywhere?

did see that earlier around lunch time I think but they flagged it for some reason...recon is heading back in there now

Just like Jon Snow..."I know nothing" except what I know, and most of what I know is gathered by the fine people of the NHC

Check out the one minute imagery of the storm. You can see the convection and the westward recent motion.

So flagging it means it might have been an error? Im sorry for my ignorance. I am really new to this, and a total novice.

Thank you for your reply.

I notice a faction of people who continue to post the same things, over and over.

Yes, please do. That would be great first hand information.

With pleasure. We just had probably the day's heaviest rain so far just now...typically, the shower/gusts lastest about five minutes, tops, before the winds dropped and the steady rain slacked to intermittant sprinkles. Looks like I just made it in just in time...was out trying to do what I could to one of the properties across the street. A rental double before Katrina, it's owners moved out of state and have pretty much just let it sit to deteriorate since then. The city made them at least throw some plywood on the windows a year or so ago to "secure" it; said plywood was hanging off a number of the windows just waiting for winds to rip it off and turn it into a projectile. So I was out nailing those pieces back up, along with moving as much of the cr@p they'd removed during gutting the house but just left sitting in the front yard and driveway as I could at least back around to their backyard, where it's less likely (hopefully) to impact my property.

As far as I am concerned be as long-winded as you want!!
Hearing from someone actually witnessing what is happening versus people making guesses from miles away is great.
Please try to update when you can and be safe.

But better to do it on the Observations thread instead of this one.

Yes, they flag an observation when there's a condition that could have contaminated the data, like heavy rain rate for example.

I'm in Baton Rouge, lol. It could do everything from go west and pound us, to go north and not even touch us.

I think it's safe to say you'll be touched. Could get 8-12" of rain (or more) from early tomorrow through Thursday morning. Wind speeds maybe 45-55 mph sustained with higher gusts.

I'm thinking we may get a couple of inches here in north central La as well. Not sure how much?

Two things:

(1) Sometimes I think peeps are taking their cues from the dropsonde fix points as opposed to the storm motion over a number of hours or days. So, if you look at the dropsondes over the last 3 hours it looks like Isaac has been doing circles out in the Gulf....and I think that *can* become a case of looking at the trees but missing the forrest.

(2) Local observation...rain bands moving in from SE to NW, gusty winds associated with the bands. However, so far the gusts aren't as potent as I thought they would be. The bands are rather passing through and to the north. In south-central Mississippi (where these bands end up) they really ramp it up and are producing severe thunderstorms around Laurel-Hattiesburg.

In Houston this morning we had brisk north winds. Now the winds are mostly gone and we have high clouds, so you can't see the sun but it's bright. Are the clouds from Isaac? I didn't think we'd see anything from Isaac yet this far west and inland.

To answer your question ... yes. We are even seeing high cloudiness from Isaac here in south central Texas.

Isaac does not appear to be making much progress:

I think the safety worries are probably not a concern until later tonight, but thanks for the concern. And since proper procedure has been pointed out to me, I guess I'd better shift my reports from "Discussion" over to "Observations". Thanks.
