Never should have called this storm an under-achiever. He may get the last laugh. Stay safe out there.

That is true. Once a storm approaches, all of that area becomes completely under water, from the tidal surge. So basically, and not counting the very tiny strip of hard land, which is the river levee on both sides of the Mississippi, all of SELA is now under water for the most part, except the areas abut 20 miles straight south from New Orleans northward

Do we know that the back levees in Plaquemines have been breached, or are you saying there's so little land due to decades of erosion that it's mostly water?

I've heard nothing on local NOLA TV of any Plaquemines back levees being breached or even topped. I'm sure the post was simply referring to the narrow strip between the back levee and the river levee. I did an offshore fishing trip out of Venice earlier this month, and there are many places along Hwy 23 where you can see both levees a matter of blocks from the highway on either side. But I'm certain surge is already covering the entirety of the marsh outside all hurricane protection levees both east and west of the Mississippi River.[/quote]

Correct. Thanks for your explanation, of what I did not convey clearly for many outside of our area.

He was an underachiever for a good while. Now, he's overachieving at the last minute.

I wonder how far you'll get. I suspect Venice is out of the question. Take care.

From the looks of it Aric should stay right where he is. It should go right over the top of him or slightly SW.

Long, strong gust roaring through the pecan tree just now.

Local TV showing water level in Lake just below top of seawall, with really high waves crashing over seawall and putting a few inches of water or so covering the land between seawall and protection levee.

Yup. Effects will be very strong there anyway. This has nothing but very wet flat land to go over before it gets to him and should not weaken much at all anyway. Looks like he'll be in the eye anyway.

Yeah, Venice is out of the question. That isn't gonna happen. Unless you are a first responder, or EOC/UCG, maybe a press pass? That road is not open for sight seeing this evening... Just a guess, but it's a pretty good guess. Dont waste the gas

Can you put your location in your profile, I can't remember. It will show up next to your name each post. :)

Could Isaac strengthen some more in the marshes? Some storms seem to, at least the pressure may drop some more into the 960s.

Terrain is so flat/wet I doubt this thing will weaken much/at all in the next 12 hours

I wouldn't be surprised at all if this continues to strengthen after landfall but not by much, maybe a bump up by 5mph and then weakening within a few hours after that. The winds may still be catching up to the pressure, as well.

NOT A FORECAST. I KNOW NOT WHAT I SPEAK OF. ;)

Looking at wv loops you can see the high over the central US building east. Just a matter of time before Isaac should start bumping up against this and either stall again or start drifting back towards the west. TWC RPM model radar shows this happening and moving back west later this evening and making landfall around GrandIsle around 5 tomorrow morning then being just around Houma about 1 in the afternoon.
