Loving seeing this little storm. You think of hurricanes as being massive in terms of size and this one looks as small as some thunderstorm clusters we can see daily in SE Texas sometimes.

Anybody know how small Marco is compared to this? wouldn't be surprised if he was smaller than him. (Both "M" storms, too :double:)

Oh, thanks! Yeah, unfortunately Michael isn't near any (identifiable) land, so it's hard to tell the difference.

You have a scale. Each square is 2x2 degrees. The whole image is 6x6. I made sure to pick a similar resolution image from each storm.

I'm amused at:

DATA FROM A RECENT ASCAT OVERPASS CONFIRM THAT MICHAEL IS A VERY
SMALL TROPICAL STORM.

It's like the NHC wants to give him a pat, hug him, and would call him Georges if that name hadn't been retired already.

Updated wind graphic for TD #13/TS Michael. A good area of 50 knot winds on there now.

If this storm was over the NT it would be called 'Tracy' (1974) or in a Clive Cussler novel 'Little Eva'...

Rico NHC at the 11 PM advisory makes Michael a Hurricane at days 4-5.

Oops - it's going to be a hurricane at 5 p.m. today, according to that small eye in the past few frames...

NHC likes to be conservative with small storms but that micorwave cannot be denied, if it mantains the structure or improves it deserves hurricane status by the next advisory.

TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS EXTEND OUTWARD UP TO 60 MILES...95 KM
FROM THE CENTER.

Given the windfield diameter, this thing is shaping up to be a real world equivalent of this:

...There's a late-season hurricane moving in over the Turks & Caicos Islands. The meteorological guys christened her Little Eva because she's a small blow with a diameter no more than 60 miles wide.

I never thought I'd see the day!

Smaller hurricanes can intensify faster as they have less area.
