Looks like they are now heading back to FL, maybe they were flipping it to see who would take the turn to fly it back home ;)

Arthur alone has already put last season to shame. Who would've thought we'd have such an exciting first storm this season?

The thing i find most impressive about the pics and video from the Frying Pan Tower is He was taking the video of the waves passing under him from the top of the tower from what is normally about 80 feet up. The waves were over half way up the tower.

I bet, if we didn't have recon, this would be likely a freaking cat 3 from the satellite view.

One of those times that recon shows the storm to be weaker than satellite estimates, often it's the opposite.

Just got back home. What video are you talking about? You may be over estimating, as it would take an 80+ ft wave to reach 40 ft above normal water levels. Is the water over 120 ft deep there?

Radar shows it continuing to tighten up. I doubt it remains at it's current intensity for much longer. Already has the pressure for a much stronger hurricane and winds are higher a good distance up so as soon as it can build a stronger eye wall those higher winds will start mixing down to the surface more.

Jog to the right will allow Arthur to remain over the gulf stream a bit longer.....better chance of reaching cat-2. Next stop, Cape Lookout.....MGC

Lucky break? Looks like it's been moving ENE now for the past couple hours, what a dodge this would be, maybe it could actually dodge Cape Hatteras.

I just watched the video again and see now that he is not at the top of the tower but on the living quarters deck wich is a little over 40 feet up, so the water looks to be about 20 feet higher than normal. the tower stands 80 feet out of the water and the water is 50 feet deep there almost 30 miles offshore.

Here is a news page that has all the videos he has posted from today.

Unfortunately it'll be a bit before we get recon near the center again. NOAA3 seems to be heading back to FL and AF304 has about 450 miles to travel before reaching the center.
