you can see her in the distance but there is some confusion as to which way the cam is pointed.

People are still strolling the beach. There seems to be no sense of urgency.

Hopefully there are few deaths and injuries, Megi was a monster at landfall but not too many people lost their lives.

JTWC has it 100 knots at landfall in Viet Nam. That's quite strong obviously but not super typhoon. Fortunately this will never get back to anywhere near the strength it had today. SSTs gradually lower as it moves westward and the eye has been so disrupted by land (has filled in considerably) that it can't make it back to super typhoon. It takes days of organizing and perfect conditions to develop a symmetry like it had this afternoon but only a few hours over land to cause a major drop in intensity.

Latest radar from Cebu. Storm starting to move to an area where radar coverage is blocked by mountains. Inner core still looks ragged.

ADT numbers going down. The raw T#s peaked at 7.6 prior to landfall (final T# peaked at 7.5). Now the raw T# is 5.9 (roughly 115 knots), with final T#s at 6.7 (or about 135 knots).

Amazing how in spite on land interaction it remains so well organised. It is so powerful it is affecting the weather all the way down to Singapore. There is also a very interesting low in the Gulf of Thailand. Respect!

NO offence intended but what is the relevance to what's happening here today.

I have a question about that: When storm surges are reported or predicted, do I assume correctly that the wave heights (if headed into the shore) would add on, at least in the waters along the shore? I can imagine some monster breakers too, in some cases...

Sort of... the peak wave heights are going to be a bit offshore in deeper water, and the peak surge will be inshore in bays and other shallow water. So its not like you will have 30 feet of surge with 50 foot waves on top of that or anything like that. But there will still be very violent action on top of the surge right on the coast. You don't need to be anywhere near 50 feet sig wave height to be destructive. Keep in mind that 50 foot sig wave height implies isolated waves into the 80+ foot range. Which is unimaginably large.

Far north in Manila, winds are picking up and rain is starting to pour. Though according to PAGASA (and Accuweather as well), the worst we can expect from Haiyan will start around 5pm local time. And the southern portion of metropolitan area will feel it the most.

Convection has warmed significantly during the past hour or so. There isn't a full grey ring wrapping around anymore, just a few patches. I would estimate the current strength at about 140-145 knots, but this is just my ameteur opinion.

Local media are reporting that municipal water services in Cebu have lost water pressure. Many buildings have water storage tanks, however. That should last people a few days

Check this out, this above satellite image of yours reminded me of an older, and somewhat forgotten, beast of a typhoon that hit the Philippines on Nov 25 1987, very near where Haiyan is striking!

SuperTyphoon Sisang 1987:

Note the resemblance between the two? A repeat performance? That 1987 storm killed over 1,000. :(

Finally, they called everyone off the beach! A public service announcement (also in English) was just played over a broadspeaker at Boracay beach.
