I have a question.. can frictional forces on land sometimes help a disorganzed system like Chantal become more vertically stacked. I think I remember this happening to prior storms before.

that one is much clearer than the one i posted around 5.. still cant figure out why recon is not going to the south west side..


Good image, AJC. I think they will find it. You usually can't get the kind of current concentrated blow-up of convection we're seeing without a closed circulation, especially from a TC that has already been established and has not encountered very hostile conditions.

The Yucatan helped Alex (2010) out, but the Yucatan is fairly flat, Hispaniola has destroyed more systems than it's helped.
