That appears to be directly over Al Mukalla as well. The landfall location from what I could see was between Burum and Fuwwah, about 12 miles SW of Al Mukalla, near 14.4N 49.0E.

1984, in late May. Nowhere near as strong as Chapala, however:

Also, a Deep Depression (IMD - ARB 02, JTWC - TC 03A) in 2008...

Apparently, slightly weaker than the 1984 system.

Indeed, sadly.

Instead of posting pics and video, I'll simply suggest for peeps to search #Chapala, #Mukalla and #Yemen on Twitter

Looks like the convective burst near the center may have passed just to the west of Al Mukalla, but they may be seeing trailing bands now. It wouldn't surprise me at all if anything coming ashore in the dark grey and colder on BD enhanced IR had some heavy warm rains underneath.

Unfortunately, given the local topography, the orientation of the ridge lines and wadis, much of the rainfall from that convective burst will drain back to the SE and ESE toward Al Mukalla, though some may get shunted southward just to the west of there, and into Zulumah and As Sufal instead.
