Re: ATL: MATTHEW - Hurricane - Discussion
Heard there were a bunch of people that stayed behind on Tybee Island for a "hurricane party"? Perhaps as high as 100-130? Island is cut off now, with the 2nd highest recorded surge ongoing...and the eyewall about to smack right into them.

South Carolina coast is getting pummeled right now. Tornado Warning issued for Florence County. Right front quadrant and angle of attack here proving to be a lethal combination.
I said this would happen last night, but I thought about something else today. There are so many Florida members of this board, that maybe the vast majority of them have no power to communicate with us right now.

It amazes me how this managed to completely avoid landfall in Florida but is going to end up making landfall in SC

Savannah could potentially experience the eye wall.

Landfall should occur between Hilton Head and Tybee Island within the next 20 - 30 minutes..

Looks like it will come ashore just below Charleston if there are no other jogs one way or the other. Gonna be a long night either way.

There are going to be a lot of surprised people tomorrow based on these late night developments.

Recon still found 110 mph winds at 1200 feet in the northeast quadrant.

And there is still a chance he won't make landfall, just a slight nudge but not actually cross over, we won't know for sure until it actually happens, also it depends on who you talk to on what is considered landfall if it is just part of the eye or the direct center of the eye.

My gut says it makes it across (the center of the eye) in the next 2 hours.

I believe official landfall is the center point coming ashore, but I personally consider any part of the eye. NHC does list direct hits sometimes if it's an island or a part of the coast that jets out (say a cape).

Re: ATL: MATTHEW - Hurricane - Discussion
I retract my previous comment about landfall soon. Seems to have taken a substantial jog to the northeast (not good for Charleston).
