Automated Dvorak numbers are approaching category 5 intensity. Of course, thankfully, we have in-situ observations with recon which trump Dvorak. Nonetheless, it goes to show how Matthew appears to be getting better organized. Internal structure changes, such as eyewall replacement cycles, will likely control the majority of Matthew's intensity changes over the next 24 hours or so.

A very impressive looking tropical cyclone. This is a nightmare for Hispaniola.

Think we can safely say Game Over for Haiti.

It would not surprise me if this causes more fatalities than the storm it replaced did

Weatherboy1 wrote:My own two cents on the questions earlier: I'm waiting to see what the overnight model cycle shows before putting up any shutters. There should still be plenty of time to prepare and don't want to waste the effort if I don't have to. But it's obviously a personal choice. As for evacuating, I live in a three year old CBS home and am not on the coast and not in a flood zone. So I would basically stay put for almost anything

When I lived in Lake Worth, south of West Palm, back in '78, our house was CBS construction, the only way to go for me.

Yeah, VERY strong language from the Gov about being prepared. May not be necessary he said, but models change and doesn't want to take any chances.

TWC met Parker is saying the governors language is too harsh since it will probably be offshore.

Mitch killed almost 20,000 people and was the 2nd deadliest Atlantic hurricane on record. Pretty bold statement but could definitely see it happening. Not good at all.

I disagree. Florida will be well in the cone at 5PM and the west shift could continue. Actually surprised at met would say that..

Bryan Norcross with some strong language in his latest update

https://www.facebook.com/TWCBryanNorcro ... =3&theater

A slower moving storm and evolving steering currents account for the changes. The map is from the Euro and show the projection for Matthew's location Friday morning just off the Central Florida coast.

This location would put damaging winds over the Florida peninsula.

A track near or over the Florida coast increases the threat to the Georgia and Carolina coast as well.

It is a very sad situation what might happen in Haiti. Let's pray for a miracle.

He's more concerned for the Carolinas but imo due to the models shifting west and their spread, Florida-the Carolinas would each get a share of the hurricane in some form. So sorry for the people of Haiti.

Eye seems to be contracting a little in last couple of frames, but may well be mistaken. Eagerly awaiting whenever the next recon data starts pouring in.

Colors of lost purpose on the canvas of irrelevance

Not a meteorologist, in fact more of an idiot than anything. You should probably check with the NHC or a local NWS office for official information.

NC Governor McCrory just declared state of emergency for eastern 2/3 of the state.

I'm not a meteorologist, I'm an electronics engineer. While I can probably fix your toaster oven, you're not going to learn about storms from me!

New Mexico had no hurricanes. Then I moved to NC right before Fran.....

One has to keep in mind too that it's been 11 years since a significant hurricane impact on FL (I think none since Wilma in '05, am I right?) So you have a lot of new residents. I know it's a fine line. You over hype a storm, nothing happens, and people become complacent. But, given so long a hurricane drought, I think a strong wake up call is probably a good move right now.
