Not a good scenario.
Matthew may track right into it.
Need to watch this carefully.

Isn't that the thumb ridge?

Its not pressure, its the amount of energy (fuel) in the air that Matt could tap into on top of the hot water.

So it won't cause a more westerly track?

I still need to learn more about the Theta ridge, I haven't been taught that so far.

It could indirectly. It could cause RI which could fruther pump up the building ridge.

The ridge would push it more west, but what this is depicting is a greater chance for intensification.

Matt was always forecast to move NW over the Bahama chain.

A secondary eye wall??

It doesn't look like a true outer eyewall to me, but the proximity of it to a southern eyewall weakened by land interaction makes me think it could compete with the core and perhaps limit intensification if it manages to persist.

Lol. So you think she'd be OK in that scenario, even if it comes onshore there? SHE'S in the brick ranch in Wilmington. I'm in Charlotte.

Extreme outer fringes of Mattew showing up on long range radar out of Miami.. at least I think those bands are associated with Matthew.

Is it just me or is Matthew speeding up? At this rate it'll pass the eastern tip of Cuba in a few hours. Thought it wasn't supposed to hit that point till later tonight?

The center will, but they'll catch the western eyewall for sure.

Sure looks like the eye is going to barely touch the eastern tip of cuba... which would likely mean the structure will maintain itself pretty well.

When I saw that, too, I said to myself, "it's almost like Matthew has a - instinct - towards his survival...." doing things, going where he needs to go in order NOT to be torn to shreds. Yeah, I know, "ascribing anthropomorphic tendencies to a storm is nutty, but...."

It is not unheard of for storms to wobble around landmasses due to frictional impacts and in the case of weaker systems relocation of convection, so your observation has some merit.

The models have it at E Cuba ~8 PM. It looks to get there maybe 2 hours earlier.

Question: (sorry for posting in wrong thread a min ago)

I live in Boynton Beach, about 3.25 miles off the coast. We live in a sturdy apartment building on the first floor of a three story building. Not really concerned with major flooding that far off the coast, mostly possible wind damage. The only thing I really care about damage wise is possible broken windows. I called my apartments today to ask if they were going to board the windows. Not only are they NOT boarding any windows I was told that I was not allowed to do it either. My apartment window and sliding glass doors face towards the west.

My bed is right beside the bedroom window, not interested in trying to sleep next to an unprotected window.

Thoughts? Should I do anything from the inside?

Weather Dummy wrote:Hi all, first time poster. I'm clueless when it comes to hurricane tracking but this storm definitely has my attention. I live 5 blocks from the ocean in Jacksonville Beach, never worried much about hurricanes as we usually only get outer effects due to the recessed nature of our coastline. But, this time we may not be so lucky. Question for those with more hurricane experience I live in a concrete block home built in the 50's and do not currently have any type of shutters for my windows. Is the track of this storm dire enough for Jacksonville Beach that I should consider making a Home Depot run to buy plywood & attempt to board up?

You don't want to go later and find out they ran out.
You can always save it for the next time.

Good advice.

I use plylox clips to push plywood onto the windows. That way, I don't have to drill holes, etc. Takes about 1/2 hour to do 8 windows! You'll find them at either Home Depot or Lowe's.

You can board your bedroom window from the inside if necessary
