The core still looks defined and healthy and Mike and the others with him are feeling it right now.

The Air Force is still out there, mostly killing time while the storm was over Cuba. I thought they were headed back home after their last pass near the center (but not into it), but it looks like they're making one more pass in half an hour or so.

Don't look now but Matthew's trailing blob might be making a comeback north of the Dominican Republic.

It is. But I can also tell you from dealing with FPL EVERY day, the lineman will go right past you if they see a generator running and no transfer switch. Pick your poison, so far every time I have pulled the meter the lineman have been appreciative, and I am not in jail..
OK. Maybe you should include that in your article.
Great idea, added it. Thanks

PLEASE NOTE: Pulling a meter is most likely illegal. It is. Living in South Florida I have helped friends connect their houses to portable generators, and have pulled dozens of them. Opinions expressed by this poster are purely conjecture on his part and have no basis in reality. As such, taking any advice from me would be foolish, and potentially deadly.

Going to bed with a little more optimism tonight. Afer listening to tropical tidbits I can now hope that it goes out to sea.
The slower speed may cause more damage to the east coast of Florida, The silver lining would be the outer banks.
Euro sends it out to sea before hitting nc. So, lets tip one for all the models, but worship the Euro.

Is it me or has Matthew really slowed down tonight, as if is starting to bump into the building ridge to the north already.

What's the likelihood that new Florida coastal residents are taking this seriously? I know those that have been through these things and everything associated with them have their plans in place but what of new residents that haven't really been through this? I'm not from Florida but was in W Palm beach when Francis was heading in and that evacuate was looonngg and nerve wracking. I never want to go through anything like that again.

Most western point of new cone shifted west by .5 degree to 80.8 west at the 72 hour point. Just offshore Jacksonville.

Could be but I'm not a Met (but I will be in training when I join the Air Force). Some have said the Euro showed a slower movement when Matthew was making moving through Cuba. Hence a stronger ridge moving in.

I'd imagine after GFS run in an hour and Euro at 130am if they tend further west those tropical storm warnings for dade may get upgraded to hurricane warnings. Obviously a lot depends on the track and model runs.

That seems better to me. We have had 3 "storm of the century" multiple day outages in the past 4 years. Linemen have come from all over the state and surrounding regions to restore service. Around here, seems like they just knock on doors if they have a question about how the generator feeds the house. No one pulls meters, at least not that I'm aware of.

Re: ATL: MATTHEW - Hurricane - Discussion
Btw, another note on generators. Have a transfer switch installed by an electrician. You then connect a heavy gauge wire fromthe generator to the house. Before connecting to the house determine which breakers you want to turn on. Generally you don't want to use anything in 220 because it wiil require too much power. A tranfer switch allows you have power and use your house outlets. It prevents running cords into the house. But, most importantly it avoids putting power company employees in danger.
