PLEASE NOTE: Pulling a meter is most likely illegal. It is. Living in South Florida I have helped friends connect their houses to portable generators, and have pulled dozens of them. But I can also tell you from dealing with FPL EVERY day, the lineman will go right past you if they see a generator running and no transfer switch. Pick your poison, so far every time I have pulled the meter the lineman have been appreciative, and I am not in jail..

That seems better to me. We have had 3 "storm of the century" multiple day outages in the past 4 years. Linemen have come from all over the state and surrounding regions to restore service. Around here, seems like they just knock on doors if they have a question about how the generator feeds the house. No one pulls meters, at least not that I'm aware of.

We had a couple linemen killed during Andrew due to bad generator hook ups. I didn't have shore power at the house till end of September, office until November. Fed and talked to a TON of linemen LOL.

In south florida after andrew i pulled my meter while using gen and was thanked by the Fpl worker for doing so.

Well, I hope you all have your preps done. I am tired after getting all my done. I am telling you, things are about to get as chaotic as you will see with the evacuations, gas stations closing etc...

I have to admit I have lived here my entire life and never ever experienced the wrath of a powerful major hurricane which is going to be right on our doorstep if EURO and GFS is right.

I am making contingency plans possibly to leave with the approach of Matthew, but I am undecided given that the roads are going to be packed with people evacuating from the storm most likely. I will make a decision by this time tomorrow.

Would I get bad weather on that track? I'm about 50 miles inland from Savannah.

The official forecast track remains close to a blend of the
GFS and ECMWF models.

The current 10-15 kt of northwesterly vertical wind shear is
forecast to weaken to around 5 kt by 36-48 hours while Matthew is
moving over the warm waters of the Gulf Stream, where SSTs are
expected to be near 30 deg C. That combination, along with high
mid-level humidity, should enable Matthew to maintain category four
status,
although eyewall replacement cycles, which can not be
forecast with any skill, could result in fluctuations in the
intensity not shown by the official forecast.

I was under the impression that Madpoodle was trying to be helpful and no offense, but this is starting to sound like a case of "no good deed goes unpunished." If you disagree with someone professionally, particularly in a thread not related to that profession, perhaps you could PM about it. Just sayin'.

Yeah, but his initial post didn't state that pulling a power meter is technically illegal in at least two states. Madpoodle fixed it, all good now. It's just not so good to advise someone to take an action that might be illegal unless you clearly state that, regardless of intentions. No bone to pick with Madpoodle. :D Seems like a nice guy to me. 8-)

If you guys wonder why they are not going by the TVCN consensus model which they usually do is because the right biased HWRF keeps getting that solution to be slightly to the right of both models. IMO.

The forecast track runs parallel to the coast from FL to NC without ever making landfall. Truly remarkable if Matthew ends up doing that

I was listening to Bahamian radio earlier while driving home from Miami - radio host said it would be the first direct major hurricane impact on New Providence (Nassau) since 1929.

If you zoom in you can see the 11pm track is right on top of the Tvcn consensus.

Looks like FPL has a different policy than Consumers. I'm gathering that it might be best to check with your local utility?

I'm sure the fact Matthew will have racked up big ACE numbers will be consolation for those on the Florida East Coast who feel his fury.
