What the heck? Schools in *Columbia, South Carolina* are closed already for the whole week. What are they thinking?

Hi. I'm a newbie but have lurking off and on for years. I'm in Columbia, SC where we're going to only get tropical storm conditions so yeah, that makes absolutely no sense.

I wonder why the coastal counties north of Volusia weren't given a watch after the latest cone was released. NWS out of Jax just running a little slow tonight maybe?

Sure looks like it's moved westward the last few hours along the Cuban coastline.

Jax area still not in the 48 hour window for effects. We will be in the morning though. Hurricane Watches should be up at 5am.

If you use this radar http://radar.weather.gov/radar_lite.php ... R&loop=yes you can see it slowly moving out to sea.

No doubt that's a function of no watches for their coastal areas..yet. the north breakpoint is right at the southern border of their CWA. I expected watches to go farther north at 11 but they didn't...assuming current trends remain intact that will change tomorrow.

Alright fellow floridians. This GFS run I felt personally was "the big one". Don't mean to be alarmist but..... It doesn't look good to me. Stronger storm stronger ridge and more southerly ridge so far. I'm prepping first thing tomorrow am. Orlando area.

New GFS is nearly WNW off Andros Island...unless this is another daring magic trick this is going to landfall

So far 0z GFS keeps trending towards the 12z Euro, possible FL east coast landfall.

I talked to my parents in Cocoa Beach....urged them to board up. Not sure if evacuation is necessary(despite the mando evac starting tomorrow afternoon). We have seen a few storms, but this seems like this could be really bad, likely worse than Francis and Jeanne of '04.

Just wait and see how everything plays out.....

Fun stuff. Gotta love hurricane season.

Yes, that is affirmative, worse than both.

The GFS hates Florida beaches. It just wants to destroy everything between palm beach and Jacksonville.

Edit: look at that ridge! Is it going to just loop and and do it again for old times sake?

I think making a harder left turn than expected, and increasing chances for further west perhaps to keys and then up West Coast of Fl.
