I now know what it's like to get a reprieve from the govenor. After days of models taking a hurricane over you it takes a hard right and away. Yes, I know that Fl to SC won't be so lucky, but news for us couldn't have been better.
All hail king Euro.

This reminds me of Dennis the Menace from 1999...it paralleled the SC/NC coastline before turning out to sea. Then Dennis did a couple of loops, turned westward and made landfall over NC. Dennis isn't often remembered because just a short time later, a hurricane named Floyd decimated the region (even though Dennis was the entire reason Floyd caused so much flooding...since Dennis saturated the ground for Floyd).

SouthDade, that IR satellite imagery and mirowave pass very concerning to me. The inner core still looks very good considering the recent land interaction the past 8-12 hours.

The eye is partially open on its SW side. I think it is very possible Matthew will make another run at Category 5 status in the next 24 hours. Conditions are about the best we will have and I think Matthew will intensify on his approach to the Central and NW Bahamas through tonight.

Man that microwave pass is disheartening. The GFS right now has a Cat 4 storm making initial landfall at Cape Canaveral 3 days from now and the eye wall riding the entire northern portion of the Florida Atlantic coast. With a core that we'll defined still, I suspect Matthew could make a run to cat 5 again just before landfall. I expect later in the day as Matthew intensifies, the 18z GFS will pick up on this.

I finally found a 7-11 and I'm in line now for gas in palm city. They are down to regular gas only but I'll take it.

Very scary situation for the Bahamas and Florida as Matthew has been unleashed from land interaction and into a very favorable environment for intensification.

Just hope they don't see it going all Andrew for the state.

IR imagery is starting to match the microwave pass I showed earlier. Environmental conditions are favorable for reintensification.

City of Jacksonville. and Duval County EOC will announce massive evacuation for the entire areas for both the coastal and barrier island communities. Beaches will be closed to all traffic beginning at 8 a.m. this morning.

They will have a press conference at 10:30 this morning concerning the evacuations.

It's going to get crazy! I remember the traffic standstills when Floyd was approaching. :double: We are in Callahan - so we will be sheltering in place. We have a generator, gas-powered outdoor kitchen (which was a huge plus when Jeanne and Francis kept us without power) and plenty of food and supplies. I went to get supplies last night after work...and the Walmart at River City was a zoo! They were out of gallons/cases of water, out of most sliced bread (hot dog buns were pretty plentiful LOL), and the wine section was pretty bare. People were in pretty good spirits though. Oh - and of course there were only about 1/4 of the registers open.

My daughter is a nurse at St Vincent's and she will be at the hospital from Thursday afternoon until the storm passes. Her husband is a paramedic/firefighter with JFRD - so he, too will be working throughout the storm. One of our dear friends is a police officer in Jacksonville. When Hermine came through he worked throughout the storm, too.

Darn, I was hoping that Matthew's inner core would have been disrupted by its passage over Cuba.....not the case. As the upper environment is good and ocean heat content high, Matthew has an excellent chance to refire at it pulls away from Cuba. Not looking good for Florida this morning.....MGC

Impressive. Wilma took a far worse beating and still managed Cat 3. I like how the core wasn't disrupted much. Oh boy I better get gas totally forgot.
