Re: ATL: MATTHEW - Hurricane - Discussion
Hypothetically speaking, say a Cat5 storm is about to hit Florida, it does not need to be the worst disaster in history or so. There are warnings given days ahead of the expected arrival, we have global model simulations to get an idea how strong the storm could get when it arrives (and I do hope people are aware of their location's geographic hazards).. it won't turn into a disaster if people learn how to react and prepare accordingly.

Extremely reassuring to see how Miami has prepared. Water basically sold out everywhere, long lines at gas stations and grocery stores, shutters being put up. I get Miami likely won't see any hurricane force winds out of this, but it's great to see no complacency. A wobble south and/or west can bring hurricane force winds to Miami still, so better to be prepared. Hell, even my campus is boarding up right now as we speak.

Maintaining 8C core temp - should be an eye popping experience just about any time.

I could not believe the line last night on my way home. They ended up running out of gas around 8 last night. Got my 30 gallons for the generator up the road. FYI try the flat bread pizza at Caddy's. It is delicious!

Wow - looks can be deceiving - I would have never guessed this is how a Major Hurricane looks.

Didn't take long for the inner core structure to recover... microwave images show a nearly completed new eye. Matthew is a very impressive storm!

Not a meteorologist, in fact more of an idiot than anything. You should probably check with the NHC or a local NWS office for official information.

Went to Sam's last night after work just to take in the splendor. Employees in parking lot telling everybody walking in no water, no propane, no ice. Had my shopping complete since last weekend. Shutters up. I'm ready in Port Saint Lucie in the event this verifies.

I know I said this earlier but wasn't sure if you saw it. Is the theta-e ridge you observed yesterday still there?

Re: ATL: MATTHEW - Hurricane - Discussion
Good morning to all my fellow S2Kers - I completely forgot my old user name but have been on this site since pre-Frances 2004. I used to be very excited with tropical cyclones, but since my 21 year old son became very ill 2/2015 with some neurologiocal disorder, I have been out of the loop...until now of course. My son is a vented patient so of course we are in the middle of getting him to the hospital...yea fun!
My point is simple - I just want to thank this board for ALWAYS, ALWAYS keeping me informed before the local mets on TV do it. Because of this site, I was able to ""get the ball rolling" with the nursing company and the Hospital early enough to not have any last minute 11 O'clock blowouts. So I personally want to thank all the mods, mets, members, ghosts, posters, etc....thank you all from myself but more importantly from my son.
I live here in PBC and I am expecting the worse - we went through Frances, Jeanne, and Wilma and experienced severe flooding with Isaac so I am no newbie to these systems but I am truly, truly hoping that we are preparing for the worst...please prepare as me and my son will be in a hospital so I'm not much worried about us but please heed the warnings from the local government to the state...I don't think Rick Scott would have so many meetings if Matthew was a tropical storm.
Again, thank you all and stay safe!!!!

Hey I live out there off of 16a, starting to get nervous, I suggest using the BP on the other side of 95, nobody ever goes over there.

Tired, and he was also coughing. He has traveled to each county these last couple of days to check in with emergency cy managers personally, as well as water districts, from what I've heard.

Welcome to the forum! Imo, the past two days were the best days to get gas but I hope y'all get some and whatever else you need to prepare. Stay safe!

I'm actually surprised at how quickly the core of Matthew has recovered. I thought some downsloping air from Cuba on the S side would have kept it at bay for another 12 to 18 hours.

I'm surprised as well. Not a good sign for Bahamas and Florida. This should have no trouble ramping up today.
