Recon has made the turn back to the center. I think the eye is just about closed

The large radius of 50 knot+ winds will likely result in quite a storm surge event. We could see some locations report 10+ ft of surge, as suggested by the aforementioned SLOSH run. That can be very, very dangerous to anyone along the coast. Also, the slower this moves, the closer the max surge will coincide with high tide, which really is not good.

Not to mention that 2 of the top 3 and 3 of the top 7 costliest US hurricanes were only Cat 1 or 2 at landfall.

It's still a dangerous situation and nothing to joke about.

I believe 14 people were killed in Florida when the then Category 1 Katrina rolled through the state back in 2005. So, 14 families lost family members, friends lost friends, loved ones lost loved ones. Yeah, I am sick and tired of hearing and reading comments such as "it's only a tropical storm" or "people act like this cat 5 hurricane clam down god lol". Have some respect!

Clearly people like this person can't have respect. They won't apologize for a very insensitive remark and clearly have no grasp on what a tropical cyclone can do even at the minimum. They don't respect the people who have died and the people who probably will die and have no problem spreading misinformation that this storm is nothing.

Very dangerous looking storm right now. It looks a lot better than I thought it would and wouldn't be shocked to see her rapidly intensify prior to landfall. Gorgeous outflow developing as well to the north, almost classic really.

Left work early, just made it home ahead of a nasty heavy squall coming through Safety Harbor right now, with thunder and lightning.

I've been through Sandy which was essentially a cat 1 upon landfall yet it devastated the mid-atlantic so yeah those silly arguments about it only being a TS/Cat 1 are ridiculous.

St Marks will likely have another impressive high water mark

IF they upgrade to 75 mph to 80mph shortly, then I think it's possible to get 100 to 110mph prior to landfall(just my opinion, not backed by any meteorologist)

the HRRR model has been forecasting rapid intensification for a couple days now---I'm not surprised to see Hermine look like it's really beginning to wrap up.

Stay safe everyone in the path!

(Also, I'm still really concerned about the apparent stall Sunday-Tuesday.)

Keep in mind that it's now feeling the right front quadrant of a 500mb jet streak, this will help the outflow and intensify.

What a strange off kilt rotation this storm has. Not down playing this by any means but if conditions had been better......
