Depends if it comes onshore. If it does it has about 16-18 hrs. If not who knows.

Just like Jon Snow..."I know nothing" except what I know, and most of what I know is gathered by the fine people of the NHC

While Matthew is not clearing out its eye in a harry right now, the very warm waters of gulf stream will likely play a crucial role in strengthening like it did to Andrew.

Next SW to NE pass from recon should find much stronger winds. Absolutely dire situation for Florida

I am in full wobble watching mode here in Fort Lauderdale. Spoke to a friend's family who lived in a mobile home park in Vero Beach. They decided to leave and come to Fort Lauderdale, but they had many elderly neighbors riding it out in their mobile homes up there. Their community center was locked and closed and had a sign that said this is not a shelter. I hope someone is going through those communities and getting those people out of there. I didn't have the heart to tell them that they might not have a home when they return.

Really need some opinions. We live in concrete block condo on bottom floor on Palm Beach County line. We have impact glass and solid building. We can either shelter in place or we have the car packed to go to a location about 3 miles inland. However, i just found out that they have no shutters or impact glass. What would people do? Surge isnt really an issue as were 10.3 ft above sea level. Thanks for any info.

I have never been so frightened in my life. I have shutters up over the whole house but left them off the front door and garage because I have a fear that I will not be able to get out of the house if a tree falls in front of one of the doors. Am I doing the right thing?

Don't look at us for decision making process. Half our users literally have that as their signatures (myself included). Please, please defer to the NHC and other NOAA products for decision making in regards to Matthew.

This situation is pretty stressful for me. I have family members in Cape Canaveral.

My posts are my own personal opinion, defer to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and other NOAA products for decision making during hurricane season.

Yes the almighty dollar but you also will have people wanting to get supplies. Unfortunately last minute planning is a disease. If they showed up to locked doors, we would criticize Publix for not being there for the community. Also, the same almighty dollar will be trucking in water and relief to assist recovery. I have been part of this in the past. Rant over!

1. Listen to your local authorities / National Weather Service warnings. If you are in an evacuation area, EVACUATE.
2. You can check your evacuation zone here:

@RyanMaue -- Potential for a Category 5 hurricane is worrisome ... Nothing to stop #Matthew on way to Florida except inner-core eye replacement.
