Yes. We've started to see bands moving ashore and increased winds

Lessons need to be periodically relearned. No doubt there are some solid Darwin award candidates out there.

Unfortunately there are large amount of people who have moved to Florida since the last major landfall who have no idea what to expect.

They seemed excited. His name is Milton Voss and they are snowbirds from Wisconsin. I looked him up on Facebook to try to follow how much they regret that decision in the coming days but cannot find a public profile for him.

I just use the one "hurricane pro" for my IPhone, but just search for the word "hurricane" in the App Store or Google store and look at the details and reviews to see if it offers what you are looking for

I lived it and wouldn't advise staying, being inland by I-75 and I-10 I am still a little nervous. JS Get out while you can...

Just an aside here. Power will go out ( Well, during Ike, my sister never lost power and she was 25 miles from the coast, so there are the outliers). Phone will not work ( or network really spotty). Let me give you all some advice. If you do not have a weather radio, get one ( battery powered). It helped us during Ike. That will help ease your minds as you go through this.

I saw it. Absolutely sad. I've made sure to tell everyone I know that this isn't a joke and not to be jaded by all our 'near misses' over the years. This is the real deal and people will die if they don't take it seriously. I fear for the safety of that couple on tv.

There was a older guy on with Cantore this morning saying he was staying because he rode out Jeanne and has since fortified his house into a "bunker". He seemed like this wasn't going to be a big deal. I'm afraid the death toll may be high due to the stubborn elderly who are refusing to leave.

The most likely path IMO is a landfall just north of WPB, following the coast through Vero Beach and passing just to the west of Melbourne, then passing between Orlando and Cape Canaveral before heading towards Jacksonville.

This would result in every metropolitan area from West Palm Beach to Jacksonville including Orlando experiencing major hurricane conditions.

We can hope that he's a structural engineer and is a bit inland.

Just finished talking with a close friend working for dade's preps and seems like the new forecast from NHC does indeed indicate that sustained TS winds and gusts are unlikely for dade outside of gusts, looks like 100 miles offshore from Ft. Lauderdale too. Hope it continues to veer away from the coast for those up north as well.

Sigh, why is it that whenever a big weather event is happening I got a ton of school work to do? Anyways I'm praying that everyone in Florida will stay safe and I'm hoping for the best. Hopefully I can get my work done so I can get back to tracking the storm.

DelrayMorris, I'd recommend HurricaneTrack.com's Mobile App. Mark Sudduth does a great job with his reporting and he get's live video feeds that are streamed to the App.

It's sad when people don't take it seriously. I seen that with a couple with small children boarding a small boat thinking they could ride out Katrina. They were never seen again.
