The progression of the eyewall is quickly progressing towards the coast.

I know when there is a threat there and a possible landfall; I refrain from posting. They don't need my "sage wisdom" when they are under the gun. I respect their space then.

I personally would like sage wisdom, even if it is from India. Wisdom is always good.

I second that wisdom is always good. Sometimes I think it's better to have people out of the area because they don't have the same emotion clouding the situation at hand

I was kind of being sarcastic when I said "sage wisdom".
People from out of the area do provide different insight but those in the affected area are getting wall to wall local coverage with reporters and observers spread around the area. Hyperbole and guesses are entertaining but pale in comparison to those on site.
My point is that when it is crunch time, people might think about stepping back and allowing those experiencing the event a little clearer access to verified information rather than people's guesses and wading through pages of "stuff".
When no area is under a Warning, it should be more of a free-for-all. Like I said when another area is under the gun, I respect those folks and step back. How enlightening are my comments going to be from afar?

I wouldn't say the EWRC is near completion because the inner eyewall remains very intense, but the cycle is definitely progressing.

On a related note, I wonder if the double pressure minimum (http://www.tropicaltidbits.com/recon/re ... series.png) is real or if it had something to do with the flight path.

Watching KMLB (Melbourne) radar loop, the inner eye rapidly fell apart and "flattened" out within a few frames. Looks like the intense storms are working on merging with the main eyewall now, as the main eyewall slowly contracts.

If the ERC is almost done, then the wind field has probably expanded quite a bit as well

I don't want to go to bed until I can see wind readings from those core bands hitting land.

I am starting to wonder what the pro-mets think about a possible Fujiwara effect with Nicole as well. Nicole is now a Cat 2 and meandering very close to where Matthew is heading. If he makes the projected turn, he will be even closer. thoughts?

I'll tell you what...these internal changes notwithstanding when you've got a 940ish pressure with a storm near the coast someone is going to pay rent. That bill may not take the shape of an extreme wind event over east central florida but rather a big surge event north of the cape. I would not be shocked if we get hurricane force winds from the treasure coast northward but Matthew's biggest mark may well be saltwater inundation over a very large area that hasn't seen it for a long time. I really hope folks from Jax up through the lowcountry are evacuating those surge regions...this is a perfect example of why I wish we had more posters up there. I wonder what things are like on the golden isles...or Hilton head on up toward Edisto beach. I'm hoping those people have left or leave tomorrow.

Ok thankfully this was really a non event for dade and broward counties even palm beach. Some squally rainbands but that's all she wrote. Highest wind my wx station recorded was laughable 26 mph in Miami. It's been very difficult finding any location that experienced sustain TS winds I saw some 40-48 mph gusts but that's it. Hopefully core of Matthew will spare FL. thx for this consentric eyewalls.

Eye wall looks like it may come ashore around Cocoa Beach, give or take since the eye wall isn't perfectly circular.

We all left due to the extreme storm surge that's expected. I will be heading back as soon as the winds let me to assess the damage and prevent further looting.

We are getting the strongest winds we have had all night currently..easily gusting 45-50mph, even seeing transformers blowing looking north.
