Re: ATL: MATTHEW - Hurricane - Discussion
Yeah, for the first time tonight I see a true north movement in the outer eyewall. Actually looks like it may have a little tiny bit of NNE movement over past few frames. The entire night the majority of the convection has been on NW quad per radar. Now it is heavier on the NE quad. Wonder if that has anything to do with the change in direction?

Think we've learned one thing. The HRRR may be great for evaluating structural evolution, but it is BEYOND BRUTAL for track

It is no longer certain that Cape Canaveral will get the eyewall. Still likely they do, but it could miss to the east

Although I have been a hurricane forecaster since 1980 that only means I've been wrong lots of times.

I don't remember who asked for it (or which thread) but here is Nicole and Matthew put onto one map, even though some resizing was required.

I still think Cape Canaveral will get at the very least the western eyewall.

Yeah. Looked to be heading due north a few frames ago but now appears may be wobbling back to the west a bit. May just be tired from staring at a radar for 9 hours.

The storm surge projection looks to coincide with high tide. High Tide is projected to be at 1:20 later this afternoon.
Storm surge is forecast niw to be at 7-10 feet along the NE Florida coast. That would be quite significant.

The eyewall definitely wobbled west a bit on its approach to the Cape the past couple of satellite frames.

I don't like the latest radar image. Looks like the inner eye is coming back..
