seems a little weird that all the recent passes the min ob pressure was only a mb or 2 different from the dropsonde. then this pass its 6 mb different..

that large spiral band is very intense too and just feeding the eyewall.. impressive..

Maria did have an outer eyewall for a bit, but then ate it and doubled its eye size

This post was probably an opinion of mine, and in no way is official. Please refer to http://www.hurricanes.gov for official tropical analysis and advisories.

Yeah, I imagine the dropsonde wasn't placed well.. Well we'll find out if it's continuing to deepen in 3 hours!

It's getting very close to its max potential intensity so this may be why it has stabilized.

A month ago everyone was excited for the upcoming eclipse. Now that seems like a decade ago. I don't know what to say about Maria. I'm just watching in disbelief.

The extrap pressure was about 4mb lower but the dropsonde 1mb higher. Not sure why the difference but we will find out in a few hours when next plane enters if it has strengthened more...

Yep.

We've told them to come to San Juan with the rest of us but they are too stubborn.

That is correct. Per this image- it can't get much lower than 905mb or so -with winds of 150 kt. We will see though.

Satellite presentation keeps getting better and better though so I doubt its stabilizing. Maria looks like she's going to wrap around that green-level (in Funktop) cloud tops completely around the circulation.

That would be a Puerto Rican thing, we are ALL stubborn. Hopefully they will be safe!

She definitely seems keen on finishing off the USVI with the St Croix hit, and PR. The track over the east end is seeming more likely which is worst as it'll keep the heavy wind over the more populated areas, esp with the expanding wind field... Not really any silver linings here.

St kitts/Nevis and Monserrat are the only islands of the north Eastern carribean to have been spared devastating blows this season. These paths over every island are just crazy!
