Re: ATL: IRMA - Main Recon Thread (Data only)
As RL3AO said in the Recon Discussion thread, it looks like the mission is over

She's coming from New Orleans, so she's no stranger to flooding rains. But I'm concerned about the eye moving over them. How well do they cope with hurricanes there? Thanks.
They do a very good job of evacuating people, if anything they take care of visitors & tourists even better.
Yes it is hard to find information regarding hurricanes in Cuba, is mostly political bs that they put in their Gov't websites all the time.
The good news for her is that at this time models do not show Irma's eye getting anywhere close to Havana, at least for now.

http://www.stormcarib.com/ has hurricane correspondents from many of the islands . They post ongoing conditions as they can.
The problem is that most of us will probably lose power during the storm and maybe even for days after the storm.
Good luck and Godspeed to all of you. I fear what the islands might look like after this storm.

Moving west earlier than expected.. or maybe just another wobble
Good news for the islands but bad news for FL. It would decrease chances of DR/Cuba disrupting it as much which would allow a stronger system to head more NW into the peninsula.
I remember yesterday's track reasoning was that if Irma continued moving more SW than expected vs more west then, a Florida landfall would be inevitable. Has that reasoning changed today?
Too early to say "inevitable" but the chances are rising by the hour. And slight northward wobbles in the shorter term could be bad news for us since there could be less land interaction before SFL. Basically what the 12z euro showed.

This is the first time we have evacuated by land in a while, and I was happy to find La Quinta. (We happened to be at sea for Matthew, Rita, and Jeanne.)
PS - La Quinta is also a pet friendly hotel chain! (We have a kitty to consider, too.)
If you're going to do it, book two rooms way out of the potential path or future path of the storm. Tallahassee is good, as is Dothan, AL, Thomasville, GA, etc. DO not head to the West Coast of Florida because if the track shifts, you're going to clog our roads up for when we need to leave!
We are only evacuating to about 12 miles from home, won't even have to get on an interstate, unless local roads are closed. Just getting ourselves off the barrier island, inland around 5 miles, and upping our elevation by about 27 feet. We also chose a location that is within blocks of a hospital on our insurance, and where my husband's cardiologist is on the list of allowed physicians.

It's never too early to start preparations. If that helps people feel secure, who is he to say that? The worst that happens is they take them down next week.

Maybe they aren't done. Interesting flight pattern. Obviously, TS force winds don't go out that far.

I think he said it because it is hard in case of a fire for the firefighters to get into the house.

Irma better start gaining some latitude or the islands are going to get blasted. Lets see how much the wind field expands when the current EWRC finishes......MGC
