Re: ATL: HARVEY - Hurricane - Discussion
Just looked at the Recon thread and saw that there are now 2 planes in there, one is about to hit the Northern part of the CoC and the other is on the outside edge of the NW quadrant, so we should start seeing a lot more information. My question any chance these planes can fly into one of the airports (that has military hangars) and refuel there?

Two simultaneous Hurricane Hunter missions into #Harvey right now. NOAA2 in northern eyewall reporting 98kt flight level winds. Big jump.

Well I see why they pulled the 11 PM update. Massive increase in FL winds per NOAA

No need to panic, just be prepared. Humble will see some heavy rain over the next few days, but no significant wind threat just yet, though that is subject to change. Follow NHC and local guidance over the weekend.

So would you say that supports 100 MPH?

If the eye clears out there with the CDO remaining the same, that would be T6.0?

That was from a NOAA plane which flies higher up so the winds are going to be higher then what the AF planes get.

Re: ATL: HARVEY - Hurricane - Discussion
they will do a blend of SFMR and flight level. like go with 95 MPH
also likely some higher winds in the NE Eyewall. few more passes may push it up to 100 to 105

I was referring the the Hurricane Harvey Update Statement 11pm CDT I posted on prev page where pressure was 971mb but winds still 85mb I had the page still open when I copied and pasted but when I went back to NHC home page the update was gone and the link had error. I would delete that post if I know how, as there must have been something wrong with the data for them to remove it. can an admin please remove that post for me. As its would be wrong data to be left in the archive in the future. thanks

The AF307 was flying at 696 mb during its final pass, while the NOAA flight that just recorded the 98 KT flight level wind was actually flying closer to 750 mb.

I fully agree but it seems that up until tonight many of the local news stations seem to have some in a little of a panic. The 10PM news however the met was more calming.
