Atlantic is weird in that wind speeds tend to either lag really far behind or speed past pressure requirements. Take Matthew for example, who hit 165mph winds at 934 mb.

I think sometimes people get hung up on pressure requirements for wind speeds. It's a very fluid relationship. It really depends on the background pressure, the size of the storm and the pressure gradient.
There's a lot of different factors involved.

Georges was at 135kts with a pressure of 937mb east of the leeward for example.
I think there's a chance Irma could get some cat 5 winds with a pressure between 925-935 if she's producing some heavy convection to bring stronger winds to the surface.

The problem with this evacuation scenario is that no matter where you are in Florida, you pretty much can only go North. There's no evacuating to Naples for this. And since Irma is expected to ride up the peninsula, evacuations might ride up all the way past Lake O.

If you wait until Friday, you will be fighting everyone north of you also leaving on Friday. You're at the bottom of the pile. It will be a nightmare.
good point, this is why they evacuate the keys in stages...there isnt going to be any mass evacuations form Florida...coastal areas yes for surge but getting on the road on Friday will be a huge mistake because you could get stuck and then the storm comes, secure your property and batten down the hatches with supplies..if you are going to make a run for it better do it by weds because 95 and the turnpike could turn into death traps, seriousely

Is Thursday or Friday too late for evacuations from Miami-Dade if this approaches starting Saturday into Sunday?

Rely on local authorities, but just my two cents: No, not too late at all, if a hit on Miami is forecast, and you are in an unsafe structure, plan on going somewhere at any time, even a few hours before TS winds arrive. Traffic, gas supplies and hotels will be a problem. If you can leave late at night or very early morning you might avoid traffic. Plan to not go any farther than necessary to get out of surge/flood zone and into sturdy shelter. FIU is one choice, although it may fill up from Keys residents. For Andrew I took US 27 up to Highlands county to avoid the interstates, but people were having to go to Orlando or farther to find hotel rooms. In Wilma the turnpike was a nightmare for evacuation. If the current track holds, Miami will not get the full force, and you may be OK unless in a mobile home or low-lying area.

There will be mandatory evacs by Friday night if the NHC forecast is even close.

Agreed. I think the game gets moved to their bye week in week 11 or possibly to Atlanta for Sunday.

There are more important issues than a football game on Sunday to deal with. Not many as I am a huge Bucs fan, but this is right up there.

their talk move game to thur or friday

Puerto Rico residents are prepering for the worse case scenario but hoping the best comes.I am prepared in my house but maybe I will not be in Storm2k for a while due to power grids not in good conditions. Sending prayers to our friends in the islands that will be affected by Irma.

The Hurricane Watch Net (HWN) has announced plans to activate for the now-Category 4 Hurricane Irma on Tuesday, September 5, at 1800 UTC on 14.325 MHz. The net will remain in continuous operation until further notice, continuing on 20 meters for as long as propagation allows, then switching to 40 meters, 7.268 MHz. If propagation dictates, the HWN will operate on both 20 and 40 meters at the same time. HWN Manager Bobby Graves, KB5HAV, said the net will pause at 1130 UTC to allow the Waterway Net to conduct its daily session. “Should an emergency arise, there will be someone trained to handle the situation,” he said.

The VoIP Hurricane Net has announced that it will activate no later than 2200 UTC on Tuesday, and WX4NHC at the National Hurricane Center (NHC) will activate at 2200 UTC on Tuesday. Any Amateur Radio operators in the affected area of Irma or with relays into the affected area of Irma are asked to provide surface and damage reports into the VoIP Hurricane Net for relay into WX4NHC, the Amateur Radio station at the National Hurricane Center. Any SKYWARN Nets active in the local area as Irma moves into Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands that can pass reports to the VoIP Hurricane Net for relay into WX4NHC are asked to designate a net liaison or connect directly to the *WX_TALK* EchoLink conference node: 7203/IRLP 9219. Stations on All-Star can connect to the Echolink side of the system by dialing *033007203.

Too get an idea as to how warm the waters are around Florida and in that vicinity. 30°C equates to 86°F.
