I hope this doesn't lead to people getting trapped on the roads...

I am not familiar with the road system on the gulf coast of Texas, but here in N Fl it has been my experience that by the time a mandatory evacuation order is issued, its already too late to travel any great distance without getting caught in a virtual parking lot of other evacuees.

As a supervisor what would you think of an employee going to an Internet weather blog to make significant decisions about their life or their job? C'mon man!

I had to close the airport I'm a supervisor there what should I do

The mayor said they are on the threshold of evacuation. I would evacuate, if possible. The aftermath can be miserable, even if not flooded directly. No gas, air, water, lights, fridge, you name it, for days upon days. Roads impassable from downed trees, cell towers down, etc. Supplies hard to get in, etc. if you stay be sure to check in.

At least on radar it appears to be developing a outer eyewall.

Fascinating to watch convective trends on GOES16. Can see latest inner eyewall burst but slowly outer eyewall is taking over https://weather.us/satellite/921-w-267- ... .html#play

Plus, you have to remember, emergency services will be very, very hard-pressed to respond during the storm, if they can at all. (10' tall fire vehicles and 100mph winds do not mix well) Even after the storm, with roads clogged by debris, or flooded out, response times will be extended at best.

I will stress again, please do not use candles if you loose power! The fire risk is too high, especially considering the extended response times!

If indeed an eye wall replacement cycle is occurring, it appears that the inner eye wall is rotating cyclonically inside the new outer eye wall. The pressure is still dropping like a rock though. 946mb on latest extrap. pressure from recon. The pressure doesn't typically fall that fast during an EWRC.

how have they not evacuated corpus christi ? that makes no sense.

It would have to be for wind. Most of Corpus is not in a surge zone bc of elevation

VISSAT seems to agree with you...will this keep a lid on intensity until landfall?

This is certainly a weird EWRC. But then again, this storm hasn't exactly been playing by the rules...

Correction: the aftermath IS miserable. It can go on for weeks.

How far is home? If close, grab your important papers, cherished possessions, few days of clothes quickly, then get out. Make sure you have non perishable food, water and gas.
