max mayfield said definitely stay unless you are in a mandatory evacuation zone and those are for surge anywayClearwaterbch wrote:AutoPenalti wrote:dukeblue219 wrote:
What were the arguments for staying put that won out?
We have nowhere to evacuate to, my brother lives in Sarasota. However, it's not official, so we are going to have more of these as the situation becomes clear
If you have a car and a credit card, you have no excuse. Good luck to you if you stay.

The 2100Z advisory is out, 160kt at 926mb. Makes sense that they'd hold steady until the recon arrives.
At this point, however, this might be one of the last recon flights I would hope. This looks higher than 165kts to me and flying even in winds that speed can send a plane into distress.

Well, possibly. NHC deems it a possible EWRC but does not mention that it will then enlarge.

NASA's high-resolution satellite is capturing gravity waves rippling out from the central eye of Hurricane Irma. The amplitude of these waves is thought to have a direct correlation to the strength of the winds swirling around the cyclone center. In this case, Irma's winds are sustaining at 185 mph with gusts to 220 mph, and the gravity waves are very well defined.
