Yep. Looking more like a "regular" cat 5. Maybe even a cat 4 by morning. Let's see how efficient the EWRC is.
Latest dropsonde transmitted at 7:01pm EDT from NE eyewall:
937mb (Surface) Unavailable
934mb 95° (from the E) 167 knots (192 mph)
932mb 95° (from the E) 173 knots (199 mph)
927mb 100° (from the E) 154 knots (177 mph)
925mb 100° (from the E) 151 knots (174 mph)
918mb 100° (from the E) 173 knots (199 mph)
915mb 100° (from the E) 196 knots (226 mph)
There's no surface measurement but that 192mph is not far off the surface at all (3 mb).

Air force plane still has 154 kt SFMR. Irma loves to make me look silly apparently.
*EDIT: plus that ridiculous dropsonde. 00Z best track update will probably only drop down to 155 kt if at all.

Did the dropsonde crashed before it reach the surface? Maybe Irma is still a 160kt storm after all.

So recon found max winds at around 170, which is 15mph less than previous, land interaction?

That is the strongest drop I can remember since Wilma. Wilma had one that was about the same. I will find it.

Re: ATL: IRMA - Hurricane - Discussion
That would be insane but believable by the presentation Irma has been doing all day.

Re: ATL: IRMA - Hurricane - Discussion
I think they should use it, probably wouldn't take but a few minutes for those winds to drop down to surface, but just my opinion.
