Read where recon isheaded back in for one more mission? or pass? Not sure if true. But they could probably do it. Yep just heard it on twc recon headed out, since the storm has slowed, they think they have time.

Storm chaser has crashed near Lamar on #txwx Hwy 35 needs help. @NWSCorpus
I wish him the best, but he should have known going in that Fire/Rescue would be hard-pressed to respond in these conditions.

Most impressive looking US hurricane at landfall I've ever seen live (since 1994).

Technical question: Do barrier / outer islands count as landfall?

Looks like they're going to try to sneak another recon right quick.

Yes, if the center passes over them, it counts.

Re: ATL: HARVEY - Hurricane - Discussion
I love storm chasers, they can be a great asset for local forecasters and the public, but driving your car out into a remote low lying stretch of highway while a category 4 hurricane is making landfall is a very bad idea.
Not only do actions like that endanger your life, but they also endanger the lives of people who have to come rescue you. If you are going to chase do so responsibly.
I like the fact that Jeff has taken shelter in a sturdy building, that is the smart move in this situation.

Disclaimer: 50% of the time I have no clue of what I am talking about. Chances are I am taking a less than educated guess that sounds good because 10 years ago I stole Mike Watkins book 'The Hurricane and its Impact'. For official information please direct yourself to the NHC and their cadre of weather geniuses.

Yes, provided the center crosses/intersects the coastline.

Jeff Piotrrowski still up, impressive footage but it's getting dark. He just reported 955 mb and dropping, eyewall brushing his location: https://www.periscope.tv/w/1zqKVRbYXWWKB

Outside of the deep tropics, you don't get a stunning eye intact as it is hitting land often and with such classic presentation not hooked to a trof. Handful of them really, like Andrew, Hugo etc

Fire/Rescue? Great job to my brothers down south, braving the storm. This is why I am so proud to serve in this service.

New unscheduled Recon en route. Should hit right at landfall (or just after).
