Re: ATL: Irma: Observations,Web Cams,Local NWS Statements (NE Caribbean/Bahamas/Florida/SC/NC)
This post may be my last one for hopefully only some days as already some bands that are ahead of powerful hurricane Irma are moving thru the island and those already have caused power outages in parts of Puerto Rico.I know when the power goes,it will take many days to restore.Hopefully the worse part of Irma stays in the ocean but anyway we will get plenty of Tropical Storm force winds and hurricanre force winds sustained and in gusts.

It's actually never been observed in the Atlantic basin. Gilbert and Wilma came close but never sustained a symmetrical CDG ring with WMG eye.
Hi, to what imagery are you referring to with the CDG? Is it AVN, rainbow, other? Oh, and wouldn't mind a WMG definition please..
THANKS!!

I'd wait till they drop another one and see if they find those winds again.

Not in the eyewall. Recon is finding the highest SFMR winds in areas with estimated pressures of 930s to 940s.

I have to say... Irma is beautiful. Dangerous, deadly, and beautiful, like a tiger on the hunt.
Any chances maybe Harvey used up a bit of the energy and Irma won't get as much as she normally would if Harvey hadn't been there already? Or are they too far separated?

The 192mph reading at 934 should verify.

CDG refers to Dvorak imagery.

They wouldn't use the 167 kt since it is an instantaneous value, but there is a conversion factor sometimes used for the boundary layer mean winds, although I can't remember what it is off the top of my head.

Harvey was in the Gulf of Mexico and went through the south Central Caribbean and Bay of Campeche. Harvey's path couldnt be any further from Irma's unless she doesn't turn north.

Must still be intensifying, SE quad's been the weakest of all.

I think we may have a tie with Allen very soon at least then.

Don't think so, maybe we will tie Allen though before EWRC...

Pressure continuing to drop, winds rising in other quads. A tie at the least, I believe 195 MPH is very attainable however.

I know that they're sampling different parts of the storm at different times, but the center data from the Air Force and NOAA seem to always be different. I wonder why.
