I told one of my co-workers today she is giving a run for it but all I remember is Camille since I lived through it in Biloxi and hearing reports of 200MPH gust that night but this is crazy.

I really feel sorry for the Islands of Barbuda, Antigua, Anguilla & St Kitts. Looks like they will experience those 180+mph winds tonight as the eye is heading right for them, with Antigua possibly getting in the northern quadrant where the worst winds are.
May God protect their residents tonight.

Hi, to what imagery are you referring to with the CDG? Is it AVN, rainbow, other? Oh, and wouldn't mind a WMG definition please..

THANKS!!

CDG refers to Dvorak imagery.

It's the darkest gray color on Dvorak imagery to be specific.
Patricia is a perfect example for CDG in western hemisphere, as you can see Irma is still far from her in terms of satellite presentation for now.

I have seen the NHC use many various level of a dropsonde .. anything really in the 900's are all plausible as most of it would likely mix down pretty easy..

Camille has recently been downgraded to 175 MPH peak I believe.

Well that dropsonde in the NE eyewall measured 196 knots at 22 mbars above the surface which corresponds to roughly 600 feet.

So sad I had to go back to school today, since I missed out on history. Irma looks absolutely incredible, it's breathtaking to see this, but at the same time makes be feel so petrified about what will happen to the Islands getting the brunt of this, My prayers are out for them

NOAA P3 about to do a pass through the northern eyewall. This is probably where the strongest winds are.

This will be another historic hurricane season no doubt. Between Harvey, now Irma, and possibly any effects from the soon to be intense Jose, this season is a banger.

Or perhaps the pressure could just be catching up to the winds...? I know thats not how it works, but its winds are already stronger than what we would usually expect from a 916mb cane.
