Storm like this, I reckon you use every tool available to you.
They have been all season. We all have, really.

NDG wrote:I really feel sorry for the Islands of Aruba, Antigua, Anguilla & St Kitts. Looks like they will experience those 180+mph winds tonight as the eye is heading right for them, with Antigua possibly getting in the northern quadrant where the worst winds are.
May God protect their residents tonight.
Around 2am tonight we are likely going to see the haunting image of Anguilla wholly enveloped in Irma's eye

I heard this on another forum. I thought it was a joke.

Actually I have seen this many times in the Carib and WPAC where quakes occur near TCs.
Especially if they strengthen quickly or move quickly.
Not to alarm but there is a very active mega-thrust fault just north of PR.

I believe the little guy to the north is Barbuda.

Aruba is off the coast of Venezuela but the other A islands, indeed, I'm genuinely terrified of what the sunrise will show. It's looking like at least one direct head-on impact at full intensity. This will be historic, in the worst possible way I fear.

Not a meteorologist, in fact more of an idiot than anything. You should probably check with the NHC or a local NWS office for official information.

Pretty sure that's Barbuda. Irma seems to be making a beeline right for it. Incredible. Such a small island. Such a big ocean, and yet we're looking at a dead on hit unless something changes,

Saint Martin too. Just south of Anguilla. One of my favorite places.

That area has been having earthquakes for a few days I noticed them a few days ago on a map that shows global earthquakes. Made me tilt my head a bit but I don't know if it's actually hurricane related.

That more or less it because it is a "break in/test" period. Think of it as Dual Pol when it was in the testing phase, except with this it can't really be tested truly without being put into orbit instead of being tested on the ground at a single site (OKC). We use the 1 minute data quite a bit during severe weather. I must say the one minute data has been very nice with Harvey and Irma.

Looking at the radar, I wonder if Irma is trying to pull a Haiyan style EWRC? The outer eyewall merges with inner eyewall rather than replacing it, which may allow further intensification tonight as cloudtops continue to cool after sunset

We live really close to LIGO and the ONE thing they complain about being in Louisiana is that they can "hear" the gulf hurricanes when they are ongoing.
For those not familiar (and I suppose most are) LIGO is the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory which detects gravity waves.
