IMO SFL TV stations should stop showing models. We have a forecast track and it's time to focus on that.

Not sure if it has been mentioned, but kind of eerie and frighteningly fitting that the list of names for 2017 is the same one from 2005 (obviously with replacements for the retired ones).

Are there any webcams in the Virgin Islands, particularly around St. John or Peter Island?

I think so too. When showing them, one has to ask themself, how is this helping? And how is it hurting? I don't really see what it adds to the NHC cone. Furthermore, it also takes away the message of uncertainty when they are aligned in one certain location, despite having flip-flopped from previous runs. Instead, just put up the NHC cone and say it could be anywhere in here as a powerful hurricane. If they want to show models, I would feel better showing all the ensemble members instead so the public can get an idea of the uncertainty involved.

Wind field of Irma has extended considerably over its lifetime. Will probably continue to grow with each EWRC.

I agree. NHC accuracy has gotten very, very good...and they are an entire organization of the best in their field.

this is a wtf level SFMR wind speed of 172 kt...not sure if NHC is going to upgrade IRMA to a 170 kt hurricane.

You have to be careful with the SFMR when it is near land or in shallow waters. That probably explains why the SFMR had some silly-high readings. Or at least I hope.

The NHC is and always has been my model of choice. It is remarkable the number of people that never use this outstanding resource but will share a fake forecast made up by an idiot on social media. It is just baffling.
